Meditation Made Easy

Ready to transform your life? Here is how to prepare for meditation.

1

Find the Place

Create a dedicated sacred space for your practice. It can help put you in the right mind-space. Find a quiet place to sit, especially if you are a beginner. While advanced meditators can practice practically anywhere, anytime, in the beginning it’s best to find a place where you can be undisturbed by outside factors. You can make the place more relaxing by lighting incense, bringing plants into the space, and having something personal or sacred to you nearby.

2

Set a Time Duration

For beginners, start with 5–10 minutes and gradually increase as you feel comfortable. Use a timer with a soft alarm sound. Morning and evening are great times to meditate. Stay consistent — meditation works best with regular practice. Try to meditate at the same time every day. This makes it easier to form a habit.

3

Adopt a Comfortable Posture

Sitting in the right posture is extremely crucial for your meditation practice. The important thing to remember is to keep your spine and neck straight. The ideal meditation position is one that allows you to maintain a relaxed yet alert state. Commonly used positions include sitting cross-legged, kneeling, on a chair, or even lying down. The important thing is to find the one that feels comfortable and sustainable for you.

4

Do Some Warm Ups

Before starting, it’s advisable that you do some gentle stretching or yoga exercise. Doing some form of warm up helps in removing inertia from the body. After doing some exercise, you will find it easier to sit in meditation.

5

Keep a Meditation Journal

People learn and process information in different ways. Keeping a journal provides an additional way to investigate your meditation session as you build clarity about your experience. The process of journaling helps you grow and develop your meditation practice.
